How to Start Reselling With Less Than $1,000

Reselling is a tricky game, but once you’re in the swing of things it can be very beneficial. You can start reselling with anything from $10,000 to $100 and be able to make it work. It all comes down to the type of reselling business model you want to start with. In this case, we’ll be looking at ways to start reselling with less than $1,000. So, let’s get straight into it!

Reselling is a very rewarding game if played correctly. The beauty of it, is you can VERY easily start with under $1,000. You can even start with less than $100. There are tons of different ways to get started with little money, but one of the cheapest way to get started is going to be selling used books through Amazon FBA.

Resell with Amazon FBA

FBA stands for “Fulfillment by Amazon.” You simply register the book in Amazon’s system and ship them to Amazon where they handle the rest of the shipping and delivery process. When you sell a book, Amazon takes care of the shipping and  customer service for you. There are countless Youtube videos out there on how to get started with Amazon FBA, but this is one of the best videos on FBA that I have found.

Go searching for a diamond in the rough at your thrift store

Another great way to start reselling is shopping at thrift stores. Thrift stores tend to have some of the cheapest prices, and since you can view it in hand you’ll be able to see the true condition of the products you are trying to resell. Search through their inventory for anything you can flip on online marketplaces. Any other places that are similar will do just fine, even a garage sale. Ideally you’re gonna just want to find some good items for cheap. Things that you can resell for a profit. It is very low-cost and has high margins if you source correctly.

Once you build up some inventory, you’re ready to sell! Getting your products available for the public to see is pretty easy nowadays. There are tons of apps and websites that you can resell on. The top 3 online marketplaces that I have found are:

  1. eBay
  2. Mercari
  3. Poshmark

These platforms are amazing because they have different customers on each one. Nothing better than spreading your listings for the most eyes!

eBay is great as it is tried-and-true and has been around forever. You can sell ANYTHING on eBay. It can be useful whenever you are looking for products to sell. One great way to see if an item is worth purchasing in order to sell it on eBay is to go on the eBay app on your phone, search the item, go to “Filter” in the top right-hand corner of your screen, then select “Sold Items”. If the item is used, go to “Condition” and select “Used”; then hit Done. You will then see how much the item has been selling for and how consistently is has been selling (it shows the dates sold).

Use your best judgement to determine if it is worth the flip in regards to your buy cost, how much it has been selling for, and how often it has been selling. A general rule is to never buy an item if it isn’t selling consistently or else it has the potential to sit for a long time.

Mercari is a mobile marketplace where you can sell your items. Similar to eBay where you have the ability to put your prices for the items. You’re allowed to put anything you’d like on there. So anything you find at those thrift store can be sold right through Mercari no problem.

Poshmark is another mobile app similar to Mercari except you have more limits on what can be sold. Within the app you have a closet used to showcase your  clothing items for sale. This is great because tons of people use this app, although it is only limited to a certain selling niche.

Finally, a great way to start reselling is to find items on Facebook Marketplace and flip them on the online platforms mentioned above. Using the same general guidelines on whether it is worth the flip. When you are scouring Facebook Marketplace and you find a good flip, simply message the seller and ask if it is still available. Once they confirm it is, you are game for negotiating. If the price is fair and makes for a big margin on the flip, don’t push the limits to where you will offend the buyer and possibly have them angry with you. ALWAYS be kind and respectful because that is what will get you down to the price you are looking for and will lead to more successful flips in the future.

Be sure to schedule a time and place to meet up before hand so that no one gets their time wasted. Message the seller 1 hour before the scheduled meet-up in order to make sure they didn’t change plans and end up leaving you waiting at the spot. Once they confirm the meet-up, let them know the make and color of the vehicle you will be meeting in. They will then know what to look for and will more than likely tell you what they will be driving as well. It makes finding them WAY easier for a smooth transaction.

Lets Get Started!

There you have it! Three great ways to start reselling with less than $1,000. It honestly doesn’t take much capital to get started. The low-cost makes for great margins and low-risk. This reselling game is not for everybody so make sure you test it before you go full throttle…and if you enjoy it,
